FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do you have plans for goose neck trailers?
A. No. Not at this time.
Q. Do the plans come with instructions for building the ramps?
A. Yes. All of our trailer plans come with instructions for building the ramps except for the teardrop trailer plans.
Q. Do you charge sales tax for certain states?
A. No. We are in Oregon and Oregon does not have sales tax.
Q. Can I use one of the little folding trailers like you buy at harbor freight tools for the frame of the teardrop?
A. Yes, if it is the folding type you will need to make a couple modifications to it by having a couple pieces of angle iron welded to it, the plans contain the instructions on exactly how to do it. If the trailer is not the folding type then you do not need to make any modifications to it.
Q. I don’t have a paypal account and I don’t want to sign up for one, can I mail my payment for the plans?
A. Yes, you can find information on how to make an online payment with a credit card or you can read the information for mailing your payment and the types of payments we accept on the “Purchasing Items” page.
Q. On the 8' wide car or utility trailers, how wide are the axles?
A. 101.82 - 102 inches wide.
Q. I didn't receive my plans, how long does it take to get them?
A. Your download link will arrive in your email inbox almost immediately after your paypal payment is complete. So first check your spam folder if it is not in your inbox. If its not in your spam folder, the two most common reasons that people do not receive their download is that either the email address that they have listed with paypal is no longer a valid email address (an old email address), or they have forgotten which email address that they have on file with paypal. In either case the remedy is simple. Just go to our "Contact Us" page on our website and enter the name on the paypal account that was used to pay for the item, your current email address and the type of plans that you purchased and we will send your files to that address.
Q. Do you accept personal checks?
A. No. We no longer accept personal checks, please go to our "Purchasing Items" page to find out what forms of payment we except.
Q. Am I required to put the electric brakes on the shorter utility trailers such as the 8 x 14?
A. No. We provide the installation instructions for the electric brakes with all of our trailer plans in case you should need them, but you are not required to install them.
Q. How do I get a registration and license plate for my car trailer once it is completed?
A. Once you have completed your trailer you will take it to a DMV and have a DOT inspection. Be sure to keep all of your receipts for the materials that you purchase to build your trailer in an envelope and take them with you when you have the inspection done as they ask for these in most states.
Q. Do you make custom plans for people if they want a different size then what you have on your website? And if so, what do you charge?
A. Yes and No. We do for most requests, but it really depends on what you want. If this is something that you are interested in, send us an email and let us know what you want and we will let you know if we will do it and how much extra it would cost.
If we agree to make the custom plans, it usually costs anywhere from an additional $5.00 to $15.00 on top of the price of the regular price of the most closely related set of plans. So for example, if its a car trailer and our car trailer plans are $17.99, then the cost would be the $17.99 plus the additional cost of the customization that you would be quoted. ( Usually $5.00 to $15.00 extra.)
Q. Do you have plans for single axle trailers? And if not, can you make a set of plans for me?
A. Yes. Go to our "Single Axle Trailer Plans" page to see the single axle trailer plans.
Q. Do you build trailers for people?
A. No. The trailers that we build are for the purpose of research and testing for our trailer plans, we are not a trailer manufacturing company.
Q. I’m interested in your teardrop trailer plans, how long will it take me to build it?
A. There is no way we can tell you how long it will take you to complete the trailer, everyone works at a different pace. People with more experience in building are going to take less time then someone who has never built anything before. And some people will work on building their trailer 2 hours a day while others may work on theirs 5 hours a day. So there are just too many variables for us to be able to tell you how long the building will take you.
